Did you know Australia has some great access to the backcountry? Never been in the backcountry? then try it out on in the Australian backcountry. The Backcountry Bush Bash Australia takes you across the Main Range of the Snowy Mountains in beautiful New South Wales.

Before we head in to the backcountry we first start off in the classroom and learn about snow safety and get you qualified with your Avalanche Safety 1 (AST1) Certification. Use those new skills and many more whilst spending 2 nights camping in the mountains.

Splitboard and skin your way over the Snowy Mountains, ride some of the step backcountry peaks around Mt Kosciusko and Mt Townsand. There’s nothing better than spending some time in the wilderness – Try out some new alpine techniques, dig a snow pit for the AST1, camp in the snow and make those early accents to ride some amazing Australian powder snow.  Earn those turns with the slog up the hill and the ride of a lifetime down!

To make this backcountry experience even better, Epic Snow has teamed up with Alpine Access Australia with their many years of experience in the Snowy Mountains backcountry, to assure you the most informative and valuable tour around.

The Trip

Meeting your Epic Snow guides in beautiful Jindabyne, we sit down in the classroom for a day of learning. Learning all about snow and avalanche safety for the day. An early night sleep then we are off to the mountains to learn the practical lessons of the previous day. Digging snow pits analyzing the snowpack and practising a rescue. When then head off to the on-mountain campsite, where we will set up for the evening. Then the fun begins! Get those skins or split board ready its time to ascend some mountains! Ride for the afternoon then its time to sleep in the wilderness! Keep an eye out for the drop bears.

Up early for some more backcountry fun! Ride around for the next 2 days get some amazing and fun-filled turns and finish up on a high! Literally the highest mountains in Australia Mt Kosciusko.

We have to mention that due to the changing weather patterns, the backcountry camping section of the trip may not go ahead, therefore we substitute the camping days for Perisher and Thredbo tickets and ride days. We will still get out and do the practical section of the theory though.
